i was part of team C which included jordan, mark and dave. i arrived early (7:15) and had the pick of the best shade under a tree.
got my self set up and soon the place filled with riders and expensive bling. some real nice tt bikes…one day.
our team found each other and got sort of organised and so no dramas with the start. the officials were checking helmets for the safety sticker but only on the sperm helmets.
so we were off and i started out front. once dave got on front the speed picked up quite a bit to 40 plus and we did a few turns at this kamikaze speed.
jordan suggested we take it a bit easier so we did which was a relief. from then on i did not feel that good and struggled to do descent turns. towards the half way mark i was told to try and recover at the back which i obediently did.
as we rounded the halfway mark we accelerated and i was really starting to think i might get dropped – but shut out the inner voice and held on. i think we were all finding daves pace quite hard. just 2 or 3 kms per hour out of a comfort zone and that’s all it takes to send one on a spiral of destruction.
there was a bit of wind on the way back but my stint at the back was starting to have the desired affect and i managed to keep it together.
so we all crossed over in a bunch and were pretty pleased with the effort. tt is not meant to be easy – i can say that i did not leave much in the tank by the time i finished.
next year i might even try and do some better training for this…
i did not stay for the presentations as i had to head back, so writing this with no idea how the other teams went.
we had an average of 37 km which is not too shabby for a a C team.
great day, really enjoyed it and i think some of the other teams rode pretty well. the masters A over took us at the 11 km mark, and the B team finally got us with about 5 or 6 km to go.
